This study has clarified the followings. 1) Originally industrial buildings built after 1850 are converted to various facilities, while buildings built before 1850 in the central city are converted to commercial and cultural facilities. 2) The preserved exteriors and the interiors changed in scales give unexpected effects. 3) In the Holmen District conversion new elements are inserted without affecting the original structures of the naval base, and thus the nature as a naval base is preserved. 4) The different design methods used in the conversion of two silos in the canalside industrial district have made them landmark of the area.

Henri Prost was awarded first prize in the international competition to develop the city and its suburbs of Antwerp in 1910. Through a study on his plan for the competition, comparing with the plans awarded second prize and third prize etc, the followings were made clear; Henri Prost only respected the enceinte fortified of Antwerp and proposed the concrete ideas to conserve it as the park - un grand reservoir d'air - with the new buildings and the gardens between the old urban area and the new urban area, and to install the modern elements of the traffic system and of the composition for the suburbs, though the government of Belgium and the commission of the enceinte in the city of Antwerp had decided the destruction of it by law.

The purpose of this paper is to make an analysis of Le Corbusier's early works focusing on the plan types &ldquo;&agrave; redents&rdquo;, &ldquo;ferm&eacute;s&rdquo; and &ldquo;linear&rdquo;. It can raise the plan type of assembly form called "&agrave; redents" and "ferm&eacute;s" as the elements characterizing Le Corbusier's early works from the middle in 1910's to 1920's. Le Corbusier suggested some city planning and apartment housing such as <Immeubles-villas>. This paper aim at the use of those plan types in such works, and it intend that clarify transformation of it in his early works.

Through a study on the architectural design of the &ldquo;Tours&rdquo; and the Galeries&rdquo; constructed at the center of the Esplanade des Invalides when the International Exposition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Art were held in Paris 1925, the followings were made clear : The proposal plan of them was studied with the site planning of the Exposition, and the Galeries empahasized the function of the exhibition, and the Tours reflected the design of the site planning were constructed.<br> The Tours and the Galeries were a fruit which had been considered both of whole-part of the pavilions, because Louis Bonnier had designed the framework of pavilions and Charles Plumet was changed the details of them, carefully.

The purpose of this paper is to make an analysis of Le Corbusier's architectural thought and the works in 1920's focusing on the folklore. Le Corbusier had a relation with the progressive avant-garde from the beginning in 20's, and he participated in avant-garde movement, but his architectural thought has the characteristic that is incompatible with the avant-garde, and the architectural works of his 1930's are explained in a concept such as regionalism and the vernacular. It was made clear that this characteristic tendency of the works of his 1930's is also seen in the works of his 1920's, by an analysis of his works based on his work explanation.

Through a study on the architectural design of the &ldquo;Th&eacute;&acirc;tre&rdquo;, the followings were made clear : the &ldquo;Th&eacute;&acirc;tre&rdquo; were composed with an entrance, a stage and an auditorium, and a dressing room and a storage, and their composition and arrangement were based on architectural conditions and regulations which had been decided by the committee of the Exposition during a consideration of the site planning. Especially, just as the pavilion constructed at the Esplanade des Invalides were regulated, so a form of the plan and the height of the &ldquo;Th&eacute;&acirc;tre&rdquo; were fixed by the committee.<br>Auguste Perret studied the various arrangement of a stage and an auditorium, because the composition of an entrance, a stage and an auditorium, and a dressing room and a storage were fixed by the committee. The architectural condition for the &ldquo;Th&eacute;&acirc;tre&rdquo; and the &ldquo;Biblioth&egrave;que&rdquo; make the harmony of the site for the &ldquo;Palais des M&eacute;tiers&rdquo; at the Exposition.

Through a study on the architectural design of "Le Palais des Metiers", the followings were made clear: the plan of "Le Palais des Metiers" was composed with the "L'Ambassade de France" and "La Cour des Metiers" symmetrically and geometrically, considering the conditions of the site and site plannings, and respecting "Le Dome des Invalides" especially. "La Cour des Metiers" was decorated with 9 pictures which were symbolized "La Classification" of the Exposition and, 14 sculptures which were expressed the artisan's crafts of decorative arts, because the aim of "La Cour des Metiers" was an education and an enlightenment of decorative arts to visitors.

Through a study on the architectural designs of "Le Pavillon d'un Collectionneur" and, "Le Pavillon de Lyon et Saint-Etienne", the followings were made clear: The facade of"Le Pavillon d'un Collectionneur" was in harmony with its plan, because they were composed with the same grids geometrically. "Le Pavillon de Lyon et Saint-Etienne" was composed with two elements; the main body and, the zigzag-tour. As a result, it is important that the architectural designs of elements were influenced by many conditions such as "gabarit" and, they encourage architects to design elements of the pavilions.

Through the consideration of the transition from the selections and the settlement of the site for the International Exposition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts in Paris 1925, the followings are made clear : 1) The site settled at the Esplanade des Invalides, Grand Palais, and etc was admired as ideal, through the considerations of the 12 sites nominated by Louis Bonnier. 2) The total site was composed by some parts of the sites which were possessed by some cadres, the committee of the Colonial Exposition in Paris, Ministry of Public Instruction and Beaux-Arts, the municipal authorities of Paris, and etc, because the parts of the site was conceded by them.

Through a study on the periodical transitions of the site plannings for the International Exposition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts in Paris 1925, the followings were made clear : 1) Louis bonnier made the principles and the solutions for problems of the site and the significances of this Exposition, and they gave a sense of unity to the site plan. 2) He gave orders to sites, scales, and forms of gallaries and independent pavilions for the site plan.

Through a study on the architectural designs of "Le Pavilion des Magasins des Galeries Lafayette" for the International Exposition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Art in Paris 1925, the followings were made clear: It gives the attractive spaces for beautiful works of decorative arts and, its plans, volumes and, silhouettes are very charming, because it is composed with geometries, and its designs are influenced by some condition such as "Les Magasins des Galeries Lafayette", the architectural competition, sites, site plannings and, the "gabarit".

Through the periodical transitions of scales, styles, and designers, and the analysis of the composition of the site clans at the Paris Expositions in the years of 1885, 1867,1878, 1889, 1900, 1925, and 1937, the fallowings were made clear: 1) the methodology to apply the axes based on Invalide and Ecole Militaire to the site plannings had been succeeded, whereas the transitions were seen in the styles and scales, 2) The site plannings were developed on these two axes and along the Seine River.
