Titanium and its alloys are used as a biomaterial because they have excellent biocompatibility, corrosion resistance and mechanical properties such as ductibility and yield strength. However, they are inferior to ceramics and plastics in point of esthetic. Then, Ti-29Nb-13Ta-4.6Zr alloy is )3 type Ti alloy with excellent mechanical properties as a load-bearing biomaterial with low Young's modulus. It is found that yellowish-white oxide layer is formed on this alloy by heat treatment at 1273K in air. In this study, investigates the high temperature oxidation behavior of Ti-29Nb-13Ta-4.6Zr for an esthetic dentistry application was investigated. Crystallographic aspects of the oxide scale were identified using an electron probe microanalysis and X-ray diffraction measurement. Oxidation behavior of the alloy was also investigated in using TG-DTA. From the results, the oxide was consisted of two layers and major component on yellowish top layer were Ti02 (rutile), TiNb2O7 and TiTa2O7. It is found that oxidation proceeded linearly against oxidation time. .
