Health-related behaviors during adolescence have lifelong impacts. However, there are unclear areas regarding the associations between health-related quality of life and demographic characteristics, as well as physical and psychosocial indicators. The aim of this study was to examine the associations between quality of life and body weight, sleep outcome, social support by age, and cohabitants, given that income, self-esteem, lifestyle, emotional, social and behavioral problems were taken into account among adolescents in East and Southeast Asia. A cross-sectional survey was conducted in Zhengzhou of China, Hong Kong, Kansai region of Japan, Taipei of Taiwan, Bangkok of Thailand and Manila of the Philippines between 2016 and 2017 among 21,359 urban adolescents aged between 9 and 16. The results showed that adolescents who had better self-esteem and control of emotions and behaviors had much higher level of perceived quality of life. Those who were overweight or obese, sleepy in the daytime, and not living with parents had worse quality of life compared with those who were not. In conclusion, psychosocial well-being should have a higher priority in the promotion of quality of life among Asian adolescents. Nevertheless, further studies are required to explore the differences in perceived quality of life between genders and countries.

The purpose of this study is to reveal the unique practices of secondary education at one shijuku (private school) of distinction in Niigata Prefecture and its foundation in the region. The shijuku was a secondary school that could respond to the educational demands of local leaders, and kept its curriculum relatively autonomous, not complementary to or a substitute for, the public secondary education system. At first, only Chinese classics (Kangaku) were taught at Chozenkan. In 1885, Western, particularly English Studies (Eigaku) and mathematics, were added to the curriculum. The study of Eigaku was based on translations of original texts or lectures in Japanese by the teacher. This method was referred to as "Hensoku-Eigaku," irregular English Studies. The revised curriculum could not be positioned within the formal articulation system, but the level of content was equal to formal secondary education. In addition, the revised curriculum was determined after negotiation between teachers and local leaders who supported Chozenkan. After the revision, the children of local leaders went to Chozenkan. Chozenkan was recognized as a secondary school by local residents. However, Chozenkan faced many challenges due to changes in students' personality and demands as well as a series of resignations by Eigaku and mathematics teachers. Despite these troubles, Chozenkan was accepted as a secondary school capable of preparing students to attend higher secondary schools in Niigata and Tokyo.

We point out a few significance of modern shijuku studies. First, we can relativize our sense of value formal education is more valuable than the others. Second, we can set up new methodology and division into periods. These are focus on nonformal education, usage of historical papers in private, and divisions by changes of every shijuku itself, or social changes.

Chou-zen-kan (private school of Chinese classics) in rural of the first half of Meiji era was organized by the rich, celebrities and intellectuals (doctors, men of religion, and so on) in local, and existed in closely relation with various societies of them. Then Chou-zen-kan and its followers were connected by various aspects (blood, education, politics, culture, religion and so on) which were grown in long term. But we can emphasize some cases of voluntarily admission which weren't bound by local communities also existed.
