Purpose: To clarify factors impeding interprofessional collaboration observed in mock hospital discharge support conferences, in order to develop training materials to promote interprofessional care for elderly people with dementia.
Design: Exploratory study using content analysis from the viewpoint of interprofessional collaboration on verbatim transcripts of mock conferences. Results: The factors impeding the process of problem resolution in hospital discharge support conferences were the lack of clarity regarding the aims of the conference, the aims of coordination and collaboration, and the aims of the patient. Factors impeding the process of team formation included the directive manner of the hospital staff toward families and care managers, and the inability to create an atmosphere conducive to team formation.
