Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in veterinary patients requires general anesthesia to limit movement during imaging. Hypothermia is a very common complication in small animals under anesthesia and can lead to a variety of adverse events, including delayed recovery, organ dysfunction, decreased immune function, blood coagulation abnormalities, and decreased metabolism. Specifically, hypothermia during MRI examinations is difficult to prevent or reduce during MRI examinations under anesthesia, as there are no commercially available electrical warming systems specifically designed for use in MRI rooms, which impacts recovery and overall health. This chapter examines various methods for preventing hypothermia in small animals undergoing MRI examinations under general anesthesia and provides comprehensive insights into the limitations of current hypothermia prevention practices and introduces novel approaches, such as the use of insulation devices, heat and moisture exchangers (HMEs) and α2 adrenergic receptor agonists like dexmedetomidine, which can maintain rectal temperature effectively during prolonged anesthesia.

犬の肝臓腫瘤切除術において、術中に中心静脈圧(CVP)を測定し、循環管理の指標としての有効性について調査した。2017年から2019年の間に肝臓腫瘤の治療として肝臓切除を実施した犬10頭について回顧的に調査した。ヘマトクリット値(Hct)は麻酔後に平均値が12%減少した。術中のCVPと他の測定値との間に有意な相関関係は認められなかった。CVPにおいて測定開始時や開腹術後と比較して術創閉鎖後に有意な低下を示した症例が認められた。術前と術後の値の変化について、CVPとHctの間に有意な相関が認められた(p=0.8087)。今回の結果から犬の肝臓切除時において術後のCVPの低下はヘマトクリット値の低下と相関することから、術中出血による循環血液量の低下を反映することが示された。(著者抄録)

頸部のオンコサイトーマと診断された10歳齢の避妊雌のスピッツが腫瘤再発の精査のために紹介来院した。胸部Ｘ線検査で肺水腫が確認され、症例はその検査時に重度の呼吸困難を呈し始めた。挿管し、陽圧換気と呼気終末陽圧を実施したところ、第２病日後に肺野の浸潤陰影が消失した。頸部腫瘤に関連した陰圧性肺水腫が示唆され、切除不可能な腫瘤によって生じた上部気道狭窄を緩和するために永久気管開口術が実施された。犬は第13病日に退院し、術後312日まで生存した。
