Most of the linguistic reserch on the Japanese ZIBUN has been done through syntactic analysis. This paper attempts to explicate the usage of ZIBUN in terms of the speaker's intention. Our claim is ZIBUN-form has "core-concept", which represents the speaker's harmonious attitude. Using this concepts, this paper will discuss the various types of ZIBUN-form. We conclude that the speaker's intention in using ZIBUN is a manifestation of the speaker's demanding attitude for the hearer to become the same psychological state as the speaker's. This conclusion could be explicable that some usage of ZIBUN has a "buffer" function to the hearer.
